SUMMARY
Supervises and coordinates workers' activities in fabricating wooden crates or boxes and packing by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Reads blueprints, shipping notices, and other specifications; inspects product to determine size and shape of the container, materials to be used, and types of supports and braces to be used.
- Lays out dimensions on materials with a ruler, measuring tape, and pencil. Saws materials to size. Assembles materials.
- Place products in the container. Bolts heavy pieces to the bottom of the container or skid.
- Wraps and pads product with Excelsior, paper, or other packing material.
- Builds crate around large or odd-shaped articles. Nails cover on the crate.
- Wraps and tightens metal bands around the crate.
- Attaches identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on the crate.
- Repairs broken crates.
- Counts items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders. Weighs loaded crate.
- Moves container to the shipping area and moves lumber, paper, and other wrapping supplies to the crating area. Sharpens saw blades.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises employees in the catering department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One-year certificate from college or technical school;
or
three to six months related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Lift at least 50lbs
