Forklift Driver

SUMMARY

Drives gas powered industrial truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, boom, scoop, lift beam and swivel hook, fork grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch, to push, pull lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
• Conducts movement of shipments from crating platform to storage and staging areas.
• Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.
• Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel.
• Positions forks, lifting platform, or other lifting device under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, products, or materials and transports load to designated area.
• Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
• Pulls and Stages product for all shipments for loading by truck/routing.
• Loads all trucks per the PTs and specified routings.
• Ensures all product is adequately protected for transport and that the shipment is whole and complete, according to the PT being shipped.
• Responsible for the general cleanliness and presentation of the dock, staging and storage areas of the yard.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
